I am way more worked up about this than I should be, but I have talked to people who believe HTML5 is slow, horrible and the worst thing since flash (probably no one actually said this but I think I’m funny) because of exactly this.

Because the employee’s of Facebook wrote an app with HTML5 for Android (iOS as well until the newer one came out which doesn’t use HTML5 technologies), and it is incredibly slow Mark Zuckerberg has decided to tell everyone that they made a mistake by betting on HTML5 too much.

Mark Zuckerberg, don’t call out a technology just because you (I doubt you ever touched the code) and your employee’s don’t know or understand it well enough to make something with it properly. If you had me (or any number of the proper HTML5 developers out there) write the app you would have seen the benefits and would never ask someone to write a native app again, open your mind to the web it is constantly changing and has left you far, far behind, it has left everyone still using PHP behind.

The reference below is an older article but the issue keeps popping up all over the place. I do not think I am the best HTML5 developer, far from it in fact, but it is clear you wrote this app in the quickest way possible instead of writing it properly, and that is why it is the slowest app I have ever seen, not because you used HTML5 technolgies.

TechCrunch: Mark Zuckerberg: Our Biggest Mistake Was Betting Too Much On HTML5

-end geek rant- if you made it here, congratulations you made it through a poorly written blog post that started out as a Facebook status.

I was intending to continue this project but then I came across Better Battlelog, this project is pretty huge and I would have a lot of catching up to do. I’m not sure how smooth the Better Battlelog plugin is or anything but I just thought I would ask all the fans that are still around (you guys are awesome btw) would you like to see me continue this project, or as I am currently thinking are you guys all happy with Better Battlelog and there isn’t really much point in me continuing this project?

If there is enough demand I would love to continue, I did a little bit of work this weekend and it actually motivated me so if you guys want it I will absolutely keep going.

I have finally decided on what to do with Battlelog Mods (about time, eh?) I will be completely rewriting everything. Starting from scratch presents me with a way to prevent bloat and do things in a much different way, I have come to realize that the current way mods are being applied is not dynamic enough and is too hard to manage, plus this way I can write everything from the start to support multiple languages!

I am not going to give out much more information right now as I intend to outline each upcoming feature in separate blogposts as I develop them, I will however provide you guys with a few goodies below, a list of some planned features and a screenshot of the document I am currently writing to plan out the project.

Just a few of the planned features:

ability to blacklist servers.

server filter profiles (idea came from PhaxeNor here)

the old AutoHooah mod will make a comeback

the old AutoJoin may make a comeback with some nice features for parties

possible quick join button(s) placed on Battlelog Report pages

multi-language support with a web application for the community to help bring support to all languages

local (offline) versions of the extensions will be provided for the security conscious

overall speed increase and optimized code

As always I love to hear suggestions for features that DICE has yet to implement, you can use the comment system below or find me on twitter (@coderah)

2.7 is mostly about supporting the newest Battlelog update, but I set the ground work for the next version as well as fixing a few things. This version doesn’t have any new features (I plan to add quite a few in 2.8) and in fact removes autoJoin and autoAcceptPartyJoin, I may re-add autoJoin in the future but with the queue system I do not see much point in it, if however you guys prefer the way autoJoin works let me know in the comments and I will get it added back in for 2.8. Enjoy!

Code v2.7 changelog

Featured changes:

Removed autoJoin, will re-evaluate whether its worth fixing in 2.8.

Removed autoAcceptPartyJoin, it appears it is no longer useful (or even working)

Changed the way mods are applied so that when one fails it reports it in the mods menu, and will not stop the other mods from attempting to apply themselves.

Fixed all mods to work with the latest update to BF3 and Battlelog. (264)

Developer log (newest commit first):

build server-side code 2.7 for release
removed autoJoin (will decide in the next version if its worth fixing, probably not.)
removed autoAcceptPartyJoin
all mods states are now managed through mods.states and are shown in the mods menu
if a mod is broken it will report so through the mods menu and will no longer prevent other mods from working
autoJoin state is now hidden by default
added latest dev files (formatted BATTLELOG v264)

Project Info & Download

First off I am aware that the new Battlelog update broke the mods, I will release an update to fix it as soon as I have some free time to do it.

And I still have plans for plenty of new features (mostly thanks to all you guys for suggestions and everything!) I just haven’t had the motivation to work on them yet, soon maybe in a few weeks or so I will have time to review what DICE has added/changed and decide what the best course of action is for me (what to remove from the mod and what to add first)
