Mark Zuckerberg says they bet too much on HTML5, I say they used the wrong developers.

I am way more worked up about this than I should be, but I have talked to people who believe HTML5 is slow, horrible and the worst thing since flash (probably no one actually said this but I think I’m funny) because of exactly this.

Because the employee’s of Facebook wrote an app with HTML5 for Android (iOS as well until the newer one came out which doesn’t use HTML5 technologies), and it is incredibly slow Mark Zuckerberg has decided to tell everyone that they made a mistake by betting on HTML5 too much.

Mark Zuckerberg, don’t call out a technology just because you (I doubt you ever touched the code) and your employee’s don’t know or understand it well enough to make something with it properly. If you had me (or any number of the proper HTML5 developers out there) write the app you would have seen the benefits and would never ask someone to write a native app again, open your mind to the web it is constantly changing and has left you far, far behind, it has left everyone still using PHP behind.

The reference below is an older article but the issue keeps popping up all over the place. I do not think I am the best HTML5 developer, far from it in fact, but it is clear you wrote this app in the quickest way possible instead of writing it properly, and that is why it is the slowest app I have ever seen, not because you used HTML5 technolgies.

-end geek rant- if you made it here, congratulations you made it through a poorly written blog post that started out as a Facebook status.

Battlelog Mods – what should I do?

I know I have not delivered on any of the promises I made about showing the new features I want to add or really showing any progress whatsoever but I have been busy with work and well pretty much just lazy in general when it comes to personal projects.

I was intending to continue this project but then I came across Better Battlelog, this project is pretty huge and I would have a lot of catching up to do. I’m not sure how smooth the Better Battlelog plugin is or anything but I just thought I would ask all the fans that are still around (you guys are awesome btw) would you like to see me continue this project, or as I am currently thinking are you guys all happy with Better Battlelog and there isn’t really much point in me continuing this project?

If there is enough demand I would love to continue, I did a little bit of work this weekend and it actually motivated me so if you guys want it I will absolutely keep going.

Battlelog Mods 3.0 is in the works!

I have finally decided on what to do with Battlelog Mods (about time, eh?)  I will be completely rewriting everything. Starting from scratch presents me with a way to prevent bloat and do things in a much different way, I have come to realize that the current way mods are being applied is not dynamic enough and is too hard to manage, plus this way I can write everything from the start to support multiple languages!

Battlelog Mods server-side code 2.7 released

2.7 is mostly about supporting the newest Battlelog update, but I set the ground work for the next version as well as fixing a few things. This version doesn’t have any new features (I plan to add quite a few in 2.8) and in fact removes autoJoin and autoAcceptPartyJoin, I may re-add autoJoin in the future but with the queue system I do not see much point in it, if however you guys prefer the way autoJoin works let me know in the comments and I will get it added back in for 2.8. Enjoy! Continue reading

My plans for BF3 Battlelog Mods

Hey guys sorry for the lack of communication from me!

First off I am aware that the new Battlelog update broke the mods, I will release an update to fix it as soon as I have some free time to do it.

And I still have plans for plenty of new features (mostly thanks to all you guys for suggestions and everything!) I just haven’t had the motivation to work on them yet, soon maybe in a few weeks or so I will have time to review what DICE has added/changed and decide what the best course of action is for me (what to remove from the mod and what to add first)

Battlelog Mods extension v2.3 is coming

I plan to make an update to the extension itself to address security concerns some people have, when a new code version is released you will have the option to view the code before it injects it to the page (from my server) and you will also be able to opt-in to allow it to just automatically update to continue using the extension the way it is now (2.2) I will also be building client side versions for anyone that still feels the new way would not be safe enough.
